The Federal Aviation Administration is seeking qualified candidates for
four positions within the Human Factors Research and Engineering Group.
The successful candidate provides advice, expertise, and technical
support
on the planning, design, development, and conduct of a variety of human
factors programs and projects in support of the research and engineering
for civil aviation. Areas of concentration include: air traffic control
systems, air traffic control operations, technical operations support,
flight standards, flight deck operations, aviation maintenance
operations,
crew personnel selection and training, and Communication, Navigation, and
Surveillance system integration. Develops and manages research
requirements, solicits and evaluates project proposals, plans and manages
a research and/or engineering program. Identifies and assesses existing
or
potential issues, risks, and solutions involving human factors and human
performance in civil aviation operations; plans multidisciplinary
research
or engineering projects; collects and analyzes data; prepares results and
conclusions; writes reports; and presents findings and recommendations.
Plans, defends, and manages budgets in support of the research and
engineering projects and coordinates research and engineering programs
with supervisors, managers, contractors, operating officials and other
team members.

Program Director for Human Factors

The Federal Aviation Administration is seeking a qualified candidate for
the position of Program Director for Human Factors. The Program Director
is responsible for leading a major agency-wide human factors program.
The
Program Director provides executive direction and leadership on all human
factors research and engineering matters and provides executive-level
advice, guidance, and recommendations to the FAA Administrator, Air
Traffic
Organization (ATO) Chief Operating Officer, and Federal Acquisition
Executive, as appropriate. The incumbent acts as the focal point within
and outside the agency for FAA human factors research management and
provides expertise on human factors engineering applications. The
incumbent
reports directly to the Director, Research and Technology Development,
located in the ATO – NextGen & Operations Planning service unit.
The candidate must show successful completion of a full 4-year course of study from an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's, or higher, degree that included a major course of study, or equivalent, in psychology.

Human Factors Engineer

Candidate will provide direct support to the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Air Traffic Operation En Route and Oceanic Finance and Planning team. The candidate will assist in the identification, tracking, coordination, and development of ATO-E Air Traffic Planning and Research, Development and International risks and issues. The candidate will use quantitative analysis, process control methodologies, data collecting and data mining, and person-centered research evaluation as the empirical basis for solution development.
Candidate must have a broad understanding of HF principles, theories, concepts and techniques. Candidate must be a self-starter, a team player, be flexible, and possess the abilty to work under pressure and adapt quickly to a fast-paced work environment. All candidates must demonstrate expertise in the field of human factors and statistical application. Background in the identification and application of Human Factors (HF) Engineering principles in the design, development, test or deployment of large scale software development systems a plus. Candidate must have excellent communication skills (written & verbal), and be proficient with Microsoft Office products. FAA experience a plus. Requires a Bachelor’s of Science degree in applied or experimental psychology, human factors, ergonomics, sociology, or industrial engineering from an accredited college or university.
Advanced degree in those areas is preferred.
